Farm Fresh Flowers from A-Z

My Sunflower Selfie

It's that time of year again when I pick fresh flowers daily at a local farm so we have a great selection of colorful summer flowers every day. From Asters-Zinnias,almost every morning I carefully select each flower at the perfect stage for cutting, (not too open or too tight) and get them right into water. The best time for picking is before the sun dries the dew, so I'm there as early as 6:30 AM most days. Cutting when the sun gets hotter stresses the flowers and they don't last as long. (Also, I don't last as long when it's too hot!) Sorry about the selfie but I had to show you I really do pick the flowers!

All summer we run a Cash & Carry Sunflower special, $2 ea or 6 for $10, with bigger discounts for volume. If you know you'll need a larger quantity of farm fresh flowers for an event please order a day or two ahead since I pick just enough for an average summer day at the shop. We also have some awesome summer  arrangements featuring the farm flowers on our web site which you can find here.

The season for local flowers in New England is relatively short so be sure to take advantage of the great prices and colorful varieties while you can.  Now through August will be the peak volume for most local flowers. I expect to keep picking Sunflowers through September and possibly longer if we don't get an early frost, but I don't want to think about the cold weather right now! Let's just enjoy the nice weather while we can. Have a happy summer and don't forget to enjoy some locally grown flowers while they last!
